Jeffs Fall at No. 12 Springfield, 2-0

FROM A SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE RELEASE

September 23, 2004

SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Amherst College field hockey team fell at 12th-ranked Springfield College on Wednesday night, 2-0. The Jeffs fought to a 0-0 halftime tie, but Springfield juniors Meg Bascetta and Sarah Brooker each scored a goal in the second half as the host Pride improved to 6-1, while Amherst fell to 1-2.

Springfield nearly took the lead several times in the first 45 minutes of play, but Amherst senior co-captain Emma Feinstein (Takoma Park, MD) made a pair of tremendous defensive saves to keep the game scoreless. However, the Pride attack would prove to be too much as Brooker scored off a Bascetta assist at the 23:16-mark and Bascetta found the cage 10 minutes later for the final tally.

Senior K.C. Cosentino (Greenwich, CT) posted six saves for the Jeffs, while Springfield senior Lindsay Pardue was credited with four stops.

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m., hosting NESCAC rival Tufts University.
