March 15, 2005

FORT MYERS, FL – The Amherst College baseball team pummeled Clarkson University 15-1 in Fort Myers, Florida on Tuesday, improving to 3-1 on the season. Junior Andrew Green (Lexington, MA) continues to swing a hot bat, torching Clarkson for a double, three singles, two walks, an RBI and three runs scored. He’s now 10-for-15 in Amherst’s four Florida games, with two doubles, a pair of triples, five RBIs and six runs scored.

Junior right-hander Joe Vladeck (Washington, DC) tossed six robust innings, surrendering just one unearned run on three hits while striking out three, upping his unblemished pitching record to 2-0 in as many starts. Senior closer Ed Imperatore (Tenafly, NJ) earned his first save of the year after setting Clarkson down in order in the seventh, eighth and ninth.

Among countless highlights, junior shortstop Zach Schonberger (Rye, NY) plated a pair of runs, scored three times, drilled his ninth career homer and played sparkling defense. Junior first baseman Dave Levinson (Philadelphia, PA) went 2-for-5 with four RBIs, a run and a walk, while sophomore Jared Banner (Brooklyn, NY) and rookie Josh Card (North Adams, MA) each had a pair of hits.

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 11 a.m. against Rowan University in Naples, Florida.
