To the Amherst Community

Tom Gerety
Monday, Sept. 17, 2001

A week ago tomorrow—Tuesday, September 18th—at 8:45 a.m., the first of two hijacked airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center. Several members of the Amherst community lost loved ones in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. Others have friends and family still among the missing, and all of us have been transformed by the events of the past few days.

I invite you to join me and other members of the campus community at 8:45 a.m. at the War Memorial for a moment of silence and reflection. The Johnson Chapel bell will toll to mark the time of the disaster.
