In memoriam: Nora Moore ’07
Nora Moore, a first-year student from Tiverton, R.I., died April
24 after sustaining severe injuries in an April 16
car accident.
“There is nothing more devastating
to a small and close community such as ours than the death of one of its members,
particularly one so young and with such promise,” President Anthony Marx
said
in an e-mail to the campus community. “Such an awful event causes us inevitably
to reflect on our own mortality and on that of our friends and loved ones. I
hope we can all care for each other in this difficult time.”
Students, faculty and staff remembered Moore at an informal gathering held in
the Cole Assembly Room a few days after her death. Staff from the Dean of Students
Office and the Counseling Center were available for ongoing counseling, as were
the religious advisors.
A member of the Equestrian Club at Amherst, Moore had been a member of the Student
Council at Tiverton High School, where she also was co-captain
of the women’s tennis team.
Moore’s survivors include her parents, Martha and Todd Moore; a sister,
Abra; grandparents Sammie Le Baron Shinn and George Shinn ’45; 10 aunts
and uncles; and eight cousins.
